TPJ Craftie Pick for November: Empress Rome Dela Cruz

November 30, 2016

TPJ Craftie Pick is an avenue for The Paper Junkie to feature fellow planner/journal girls and let readers get to know them better through answering a couple of questions!

This month’s Craftie Pick is one of the first few planner girls I’ve followed during my noob times in the planning community. I have also brought a kit from her last February and I even wrote about it here: TPJ Reviews: Planner Lookbook Kit. I’m pretty sure a lot of people know her already. She’s @empressrome across all her social media handle and no, that’s not just a pseudo-name. It’s her real name!

Get to know Rome more in this month’s edition of TPJ Craftie Pick!

  1. Hi Rome! Tell us a few things about yourself.
    • Hey there! I’m Rome a cray-cray mom to Brielle and a weirdo wife to Pao. I go by the handle @empressrome all across my social media accounts. I’m a moon child who’s very into flowers, hearts and everything pretty (to my eyes – LOL). I love crafting, doing DIYs, and upcycle old stuff since elementary (though I didn’t know that I was already crafting, all I know was I enjoy making them). ♥
  2. What made you decide to pursue creative planning?
    • I decided to get into creative planning simply to infuse my love of crafting with planning.
  1. What are the benefits of it to you so far?
    • It definitely helped me get my schedule organized and see how are things going: in terms of the mom and wife duties, home, small business, and everything in between but on top of that, it gives me a time off to destress, relax and hone the itsy bitsy creativity in me.
    1. Who are your #plannerspirations?
      • I have several planner girls that I stalk on Instagram and you tube and my top faves are:
        • Belinda Selene – I have always been her fan! Watching her videos made me purchase a Mambi Happy Planner which (of course) I didn’t regret on buying.
        • Jessica of MrsMomNextDoor and Kiara @PaperPrincess; I love their planner set ups!
        • LoveCynthia- a Filipina based in Paris. I have always been her fan prior the creation of the happy girls and I miss her commissioned works posts. I love how she creatively take photos in her Instagram feed.
        • And last but never the least, fellow Filipina planner girl, Belle Fenix @the_craftroom_project her spreads, crafts and planner set- ups are all so inspiring; It’s like a ‘one-stop hub’ if you want to get yourself inspired with your planner.
    1. How many planners/journals do you currently have? (If more than one, please specify what each planner/journal is for and explain how you manage to keep up with it.)
      • I have very few planners that I try my best to switch to every month; but what I normally use regularly are:
        • one Personal/Medium-sized planner for my over-all planning; expense tracker, chores, and the like
        • undated Mambi Happy Planner- Overview of my day’s to- do’s aaaand lastly,
        • hardbound NBS notebook that I have for years now which me and hubby fondly call ‘the book of ideas’ Bwahahahaha!
      • But here’s a few of the planners I own:
        • Kate Spade Pink Bonnet
        • Kate Spade Mikas in Cliff Grey
        • Kate Spade Wellesley in Ballet Slip (still in transit–lol lol lol)
        • Kate Spade Wellesley in Black
        • Kate Spade Wellesley in Cabaret Pink
        • Kikki k Medium Mint Perforated Planner
        • Kikki k Limited Edition Medium Gold Planner
        • Webster pages Color Crush in Blush – current planner in use
        • DIY Mambi Happy Planner –  current day one page planner
        • Undated Mambi Happy Planner
        • NBS hardbound notebook a.k.a book of ideas (lol)
    2. How would you define your style in designing your weekly spreads/planner/journal?
      • Decorating my planner spreads/planner set-up is dependent on two things: my mood and available items on my stash thus my style is “anything goes”. I use decorative stickers on a minimal when there’s a handful to write and decorate my heart out when there’s not much to write on. Also, I am still in search of my “signature” designing style like when you see the spread, you’d know it’s Rome’s but uh-uh! Don’t have that just yet or maybe will never have. LOL.
    1. Top 3: What are your top 3 planner essentials?
      • I can’t start planning without stickers, washi tapes, and frixion pen/s. Once, I tried to jot on my MAMBI the things I need to accomplish in the next hours but would you believe that I just couldn’t write anything without a piece of sticker or washi tape on it. So, it took me another 30 minutes to one hour just to write the to-do’s. (I’m sure, only planner girls would understand.)
    2. Top 3: What are the top 3 items in your wishlist?
      • Kate Spade Stripe
      • Webster’s Pages Traveler’s Notebook in Blush. I don’t have any TN hence I would like one.
      • More, more time to craft!

    1. For you, what is planner peace?
      • Planner peace is a long term process that is somewhat hard to obtain for most planner girls especially that our needs constantly change; but for me planner peace is not just finding the right planner per se but the right system that you may find yourself more productive. It doesn’t matter if it’s just a notebook with bullet format or TN with hyperdex or ring binder with decorations. As long as you feel happy and you see yourself more productive then you probably have found your planner peace.

    2. If there’s one planner stuff you can’t live without, what would it be?
      • I could’t live my planner life without stickers. Stickers then (in highschool), stickers now.  Stickers forever. ♥
I hope you had fun reading Rome’s answers!
Disclaimer: Planner photos are not mine. They were submitted to me by Rome for posting purposes. I edited the banner image.

TPJ Craftie Pick for September: Essy Tan

    September 29, 2016

TPJ Craftie Pick is an avenue for The Paper Junkie to feature fellow planner/journal girls and let readers get to know them better through answering a couple of questions!
Hallooo! The past few weeks have been pretty hectic for me. I’ve been meaning to squeeze in some time for this so I can post it earlier but I still ended up posting late! Boohoo.

Anyway, for this month’s TPJ Craftie Pick, we have someone who’s been really catching attention with her spreads and set-ups. She never fails to make us go all “oooh” and “aah” and “oh, that’s so cuuute!!!” whenever we see her post her set-up. I found out about her while browsing the Explore feature of my Instagram account back in January and I’m pretty sure most of you know her already. TPJ Craftie Pick for September is Essy Tan!

Are you all ready to read Essy’s answers?

    1. Hi Essy! Tell us a few things about yourself.
      • Hi po, Essy here or @ilove.ice on Instagram. I’m a crafter Mom of two. A big hoarder of cute stationeries and stuff. As seen on my Instagram account. I love color pastels, pink and mint.
    2. What made you decide to pursue creative planning?
      • Since Grade 5 Elementary I started using Ring Bind Planners, used this as my tracking schedules for homework, quizzes, etc. and I even used this as my wallet before. Since then, it helps me a lot to be organized. I created my craft account to share my hauls, spreads and my DIYs to other planner addicts. Creative Planning is my daily therapy. Keeps me relax after mommy duties.
    1. What are the benefits of it to you so far?
      • Keeps me update and organize
      • Seeing happy colors, cute stationeries, and more crafts make my day complete
      • Planning makes me relaxed and happy.
      1. Who are your #plannerspirations?
        • Kerri Pouliot of @iheart2plan. I love how she managed to be a mom of four and still have time for planning. I love her style in planning; it feels like home when I see her spreads and set-ups.
        • Christy Tomlinson of @theplannersociety. She’s so smart and creative in designing and iIsuper love her kits. 😻 Best kit and worth buying every peso.
        • Cynthia Renard of @lovecynthia. First photo I’ve seen from her Instagram account was her famous washi house, next is her lovely workstation in color pink and white. Since then, she’s been my inspiration not only on planners but also in keeping your workstation tidy and comfortable. And I love her doodles and stamps!!! 😻
        • Belle Uy of @the_craftroom_project. I met her online through my friend Vanessa (@crafty.papillon). Belle is the artist behind the stickers and kawaii paper clips of @craftypshop. I’m not a big fan of florals or any design with flowers before. But seeing her spreads and artwork on Instagram made me fell in love with floral prints. She’s my number one enabler on subscribing to the TPS Kit. 😹
      1. How many planners/journals do you currently have? (If more than one, please specify what each planner/journal is for and explain how you manage to keep up with it.)
        • Ring Planners in used:
          1. KS Cabaret Pink in Size Personal – my current planner.
          2. KS Rose Gold in Size Personal – to store my prior monthly and weekly spreads plus financial records.
          3. LV Damier Ebene Agenda  in PM – as my wallet for small bags.
          4. Filofax Malden in Ochre size Pocket – as my wallet for big bags.
        • Fauxdoris/TN Planners in used:
          1. Saffinao Gold Pelledori in Personal Size – Sticker Album

          3. Pink Fauxdori in Standard Size – Sticker Album
          4. Amaridori in Standard Size – Memory Album for Travel and Special Events
          5. Saffiano Rose Gold Pelledori in Standard Size – Memory Album for Baby Sky
        • Happy Planner – loving my HP that I got during #theplanneraffair organized by Ms. Cynthia Renard as my daily memory planner.
      1. How would you define your style in designing your weekly spreads/planner/journal?
        • My style is more on dainty and making sure that colors and designs complement each other.
      1. Top 3: What are your top 3 planner essentials?
        • My Top 3 planner essentials are washis, stickers, and stamps! My spreads are not complete without them.
      2. Top 3: What are the top 3 items in your wishlist?
        • These are my Top 3 wishlist… LV Damier in Azur size MM, Cameo/Curio, and Kingfisher Blue and Fuschia Malden in size Personal.
      1. For you, what is planner peace?
        • For me Planner Peace is the planner that you cannot live without. Your most favorite and your go-to planner. Felt this before when I bought my LV Damier Ebene Agenda in size MM last year. I have been using it for months and decided to destash my other planners. Been telling to my planner friends that I had found my planner peace.

Then! Kate Spade released the Rose Gold Agenda last year! 🙀 Bye bye, Planner Peace 😹 LOL.

      2. If there’s one planner stuff you can’t live without, what would it be?
        • Uhmm… Washi Tapes. Next are stickers and stamps.
It’s nice to know the person behind those pretty photos on Instagram, right? I hope you enjoyed reading Essy’s answers!

TPJ Craftie Pick for August: Elka Bungay

      August 31, 2016

TPJ Craftie Pick is an avenue for The Paper Junkie to feature fellow planner/journal girls and let readers get to know them better through answering a couple of questions!

It’s the last day of the month meaning it’s time for the TPJ Craftie Pick again! For this month, the planner girl I’ll be featuring is one of the people I look up to because of her very neat and dainty spreads. In her simple spreads, I really find the beauty in organizing and planning. What made me really admire her more was when I found out that she’s actually taking up medicine (hence the med on her Instagram handle, how could I have missed that in the first place? LOL).

Without further ado, I present to you the TPJ Craftie Pick for August, Elka Bungay!

      1. Hi Elka! Tell us a few things about yourself.
        • Hello!!! *squeals inside* I’m Elka A.K.A MintNMed on Instagram, a twenty-something year old (LOL), third year medical student, seasoned seller at Dolces Online, part-time calligraphy hugot queen, and registered pharmacist (queue in music, please: your love, your love is my drug).
      2. What made you decide to pursue creative planning?
        • It was around November 2014 when I decided to document planning as a hobby thru Instagram. Being in my second semester of first year medical school, I was under a lot of stress and wanted an outlet that entailed a “no-brainer” activity. It was also during the time that I was coping up from a recent break-up and wanted to try new things. However, planning was not new to me! I’ve been using different brands of planners since grade 2 when I first got a blue-colored, Tweety Bird, pocket-sized organizer as a birthday gift. However, washi tapes, die-cut stickers, clear stamps, and journaling cards were not in my vocabulary, yet! But I sure had several Scrapbooking brand of foam die-cuts and shapes from the good ‘ol National Bookstore.
      1. What are the benefits of it to you so far?
        • Seriously, I realized how O.C. I am with things. Well, my pharmacy-related outputs back in college was graded therefore, I had to paste well, cut precisely, and write neatly on packaging inserts, labels, boxes, etc. I think it is beneficial to me for becoming a habit.

As long as I have my lists on my planner, I am at ease that I will be able to accomplish things for the day, the week, or the month. If ever I do not, at least I have a tracker of what still needs to be covered. When I write daily on my journal, I can have a safe and sound sleep.

Also, in this small community, I was able to gain friends from the online world with whom I can share my happiness, excitement, and disappointment on planner-related goodies.

Excuse thy cheesy-ness here, syempre naka-move on ako. Teehee!

        1. Who are your #plannerspirations?
          • My top and most favorite planner girl would be Isa or @isalcaraz on Instagram! I recall finding her on the explore section of IG and discovered out how this Cebu-based law-student could actually squeeze time for planning. She is such a sweetheart to take time to reply to my queries when I had the urge of making a planner account like hers.

Ms. Doris of @thestoragestudio on IG would definitely be my runner-up. I love her vast collection of traveler’s notebooks and ring binders. She is the epitome of versatile and functional planning who can make both TNs and binders suit her needs.

I am not a huge fan of mixed-media decorations (photos, doilies, stamps, stickers, etc.) on planner spreads, yet @chuchailovescrafts on IG makes anything pink seemingly enticing for my eyes! By the way, she has memory planning spreads which I like am envious of doing in the future.

        1. How many planners/journals do you currently have? (If more than one, please specify what each planner/journal is for and explain how you manage to keep up with it.)
          • I have accumulated four planners over the last two years and have destashed four, as well. Told you I do not have that much. My personal sized Camel PelleDori from Pelle Studio, who makes vegetable-tanned leather goods on Etsy, serve as my wallet/financial or OTG (on-the-go) planner. The TN itself has built-in card slots in front and secretarial pocket at the back. I keep extra cards, receipts, and cash with ease using a fabric Doridiva-like insert custom-made by @chrisella09 on IG. It also contains three notebooks for weekly planning that does not require decoration or neatly written schedules¸ bullet journaling and lists for errands, and financial tracker.
          • My personal-sized Filofax Malden in Kingfisher Blue serves as my main planner. It houses only Sew Much Crafting inserts I adore love so much! You would only know how premium they are when you have touched and used them. It has my month on 2 pages overview, week on 2 pages vertical inserts, some shop reviews inserts to be used when I am finally decided to put up my own blog, to-do lists, and a bunch of top-loading see-through envelopes for my most used  abused stickers mostly from Kraftrina and Fluffy Maru Designs on Etsy .
          • I also own a personal-sized Aqua Filofax Lockwood for daily journaling on week on 2 pages inserts. It also has some beauty, fashion, and craft wishlists, a pile of personal stuff, and to-do lists again!
          • On the other hand, my personal-sized Aqua Filofax Finsbury is a “reliever” for KB Malden. But that does not mean it’s just a substitute! It is just too precious, knowing the color has already been discontinued.
        2. How would you define your style in designing your weekly spreads/planner/journal?
          • My planning style is minimalist with injections of kawaii & cutesy, fancy florals, pastels, and anything metallic foil in finish. I have streamlined my decorations when I recently switched to week on 2 pages vertical inserts from SMC and only writing what is necessary.
          • P.S. I love white spaces on my planner spreads because it is neater that way, in my opinion.
        1. Top 3: What are your top 3 planner essentials?
          • First on my list would be die-cut stickers—because I am such a lazy stamper. Next are washi tapes, who does not have a boat load of these? You have got to be kidding me! Lastly, PENS, pens, and more pens of course, which is why my hobby has turned into business and vice versa.
        2. Top 3: What are the top 3 items in your wishlist?
          • Lamy Al-star Blue Green Fountain Pen with extra fine nib— Yasss! This 2014 released pen is making a come back already!
          • A non-existent, or must be on the way for production, pocket sized Filofax Malden in Kingfisher Blue.
          • Another pocket-sized Chic Sparrow, Foxy Fix, or Pelle Studio traveler’s notebook.
        1. For you, what is planner peace?
          • Girl, planner peace is all about making your organizer work for you. So let me put in…work, work, work, work, work, work. Thanks Riri!  It is something I have discovered since I both have the traveler’s notebook and ring binder types of planners. Seriously, I can plan on either or both of it. You really have to put the effort of adjusting it to your needs. Both types share the flexibility of mixing in notebooks or inserts accustomed to my planning style.
          • Thus, it is when choosing a planner precedes planner peace. During the past years, I have learned that the reason why I am not able to constantly use a planner is because I chose the wrong kind. It might be because I was enabled by a friend to buy it from the bookstore, decided to collect Starbucks stickers, or wanted to buy something one-of-a-kind by ordering the Korean-made planners, with picturesque shots of Paris or New York, online.
        2. If there’s one planner stuff you can’t live without, what would it be?
          • PENS! The ultimate multi-tasker for planning and school. ‘Nuff said! Haha!
          • Geez… I realized this was a hard question. Can I add Sew Much Crafting inserts, too? Please, let us make this an exception. Once you go SMC, you will never ever go back to your old inserts again!
Elka’s answers were so detailed for each question that it actually felt I got to know her a bit better! I hope you had fun reading too! See you next month!

TPJ Craftie Pick for July: Eraizza Reyes

        July 31, 2016

TPJ Craftie Pick is an avenue for The Paper Junkie to feature fellow planner/journal girls and let readers get to know them better through answering a couple of questions!

Howza! This month’s craftie pick is a very kind and down-to-earth planner girl I “discovered” through Instagram. I love how she reaches out to planner newbies (like I once was before!) and encourages them. She’s one of the most approachable planner girls I know that’s why I really wanted to feature her!

I’m sure you’ve seen her get featured on various shops and have admired her spreads like I always have! The Craftie Pick for July is Eraizza Reyes!

        1. Hi Eraizza! Tell us a few things about yourself.
          • For most people, I go by Eraizza, but feel free to call me Rai. I am a nurse by profession and it takes me 8 to (a whopping) 16 hours a day to save lives. I’d rather date my dog and/or my planner than socialize. Lol.
        2. What made you decide to pursue creative planning?
          • I guess you decided to be inspired by others and returning the favor, working hard on your weekly lay-outs; keeping the surprise in each unique design you can come up with (of course with a couple of hours of contemplating which washi goes well with this ephemera…)
        1. What are the benefits of it to you so far?
          • Planning can also make you giddy, temporarily forget about the toxicity level in the hospital you work in. Makes you feel inspired and at the same time good about yourself. Relaxes my mind to be able to squeeze out those creative juices waiting to be extracted (sounds gore… lol).
          1. Who are your #plannerspirations?
            • @scrappinlove, @dedralong, @mygreencow & ofcourse @lionachinky
          1. How many planners/journals do you currently have? (If more than one, please specify what each planner/journal is for and explain how you manage to keep up with it.)
            • I have two personal binder which I use depending upon my mood. It is my main planner which includes monthly, weekly, daily, notes and expenses tracker.
            • A Webster’s Pages Traveler’s Notebook that serves as my memory keeper. It has pictures, tickets, tissues, receipts and some things that remind me of the event.
            • DYL (Design Your Life) planners from cnsdesigns are my stay at home planners. I usually jot down random ideas on it.
          2. How would you define your style in designing your weekly spreads/planner/journal?
            • I don’t really have specifics when it comes to style, I just see to it that the colors complement each other. I try to keep it bright to keep me motivated in writing long lists. Also, I see to it that I allot an ample amount of space for endless errands & daily shenanigans.
          1. Top 3: What are your top 3 planner essentials?
            • Unipin!! I just can’t function without those writing must-haves. Of course I can’t go without — stickers, ephemeras, washi tapes, and some cutesy stamps which I just recently found to be really helpful (Don’t judge, late bloomer here…)
          2. Top 3: What are the top 3 items in your wishlist?
            • An A5 websters would definitely be my top 1, followed by a walk-in craft closet — I mean, name one planner girl who wouldn’t want that. And lastly, endless supply of craft essentials!
          1. For you, what is planner peace?
            • Planner peace can be temporarily obtained, but let’s be honest here — we are almost always indecisive about our beloved craft stuff, may it be the planners or the itsy bitsy stickers we use to design our wo2p. But for me, planner peace is when you can go boasting (only to yourself!!!) about your final decisions which colors to combine or which stickers to use (even sometimes, to cover wrong writings hehe).
          2. If there’s one planner stuff you can’t live without, what would it be?
            • Stickers!! Cause… can’t leave them, can’t live without ’em P.S Big thanks to my friend czarina sophiya for helping me out with these questions!
Stay tuned for next month’s Craftie Pick! Hope you had fun reading Eraizza’s answers!

TPJ Craftie Pick for June: Aina Reyes-Paco

          June 22, 2016

TPJ Craftie Pick is an avenue for The Paper Junkie to feature fellow planner/journal girls and let readers get to know them better through answering a couple of questions!

I hope you all enjoyed the first part of this series. For this month, our TPJ Craftie Pick is one of my favorite planner girls out there, Aina Reyes-Paco.

I *shamelessly* stalk her Instagram account everyday because I really love how she styles her spreads. It’s just so clean and so vintage-y that I always have to ask myself, “Why wasn’t I born this talented?” Her calligraphy skills always put me in awe and her feed is just so well-curated I wonder why Instagram hasn’t made her a suggested account yet!

I’m pretty sure you all would like to know about her already so I won’t be prolonging your agony!

          1. Hi Aina! Tell us a few things about yourself.
            • People used to have the impression that I am anti social and a bit aloof… That did hold true until I discovered that there are pen gluttons and paper hoarders like me. I’m a foreign exchange trader by day and a wishful calligrapher the rest of the hours. I’m lucky enough to have a husband who pretends to believe me that almost all my planners are from giveaways. Hah!
          2. What made you decide to pursue creative planning?
            • It has been a derivative of planning, journaling and calligraphy – it was more of continuing this than pursuing. I needed the pen and ink therapy because work has always been stressful.
          1. What are the benefits of it to you so far?
            • I found patience that I never thought I had. My wallet is slimmer and sexier. Creativity lets me express what I think and feel without worrying about what other people will say.
            1. Who are your #plannerspirations?
              • @thedailyroe and @plan2create
            1. How many planners/journals do you currently have? (If more than one, please specify what each planner/journal is for and explain how you manage to keep up with it.)
              • DO I HAVE TO ANSWER THIS?!?
                • Three (3) A5’s that are basically for planning and memory keeping. I have the option of bringing this everywhere I go or I just leave it at home.
                • Eight (8) personal/medium – I bring everyday, depending on the mood and the color I want 😂
                • Two (2) Midori Traveler’s Notebook – Weekly planning and weekly reflections and calligraphy
                • One (1) Hobonichi Techo – Where the journaling happens
            2. How would you define your style in designing your weekly spreads/planner/journal?
              • I have always been the type to use typeface designs, maps and all things vintage. I like muted colors and simple geometric designs. I try to go colorful once in a while, muted florals would work but both combined – I will have a heart attack.
            1. Top 3: What are your top 3 planner essentials?
              • My calligraphy pens and nibs, any planner with really good quality inserts and lastly, my washi tapes!!!
            2. Top 3: What are the top 3 items in your wishlist?
              • Hmmmm… Wishlist…
                • I have my eyes set on a Louis Vuitton Damier Azure in MM and GM. I just have to figure out how to have “won” these in a giveaway when I tell my husband.
                • I want to replace my wall of finance books to art and design books.
                • My own franchise of Hobby Lobby! Hah!
            1. For you, what is planner peace?
              • Planner peace is a state of mind. Hah. I kid. Planner peace is having a planner that matches the theme of what I am wearing. But kidding aside, planner peace is within the inserts of the planner itself. I multitask when I use my planner. There is watercolor calligraphy, pointed pen, and even brush pens. Smooth buttery paper beats any brand of planner for me.
            2. If there’s one planner stuff you can’t live without, what would it be?
              • Can it be two?! I guess you don’t have much of a choice because I’m still writing down 2!! Inserts or pages that are just oh so smooth and well laid out and my Pilot G-Tec in 0.4 in Black.
Hope you had fun reading Aina’s answers. I had a good laugh while going through it! 😉 Stay tuned for next month’s TPJ Craftie Pick!
